Introduction to Behaviour Change Week

Week one of the Sustainable Performance Academy program focuses on sharing evidence-based behaviour change principles, providing you with a practical framework for translating your good intentions into action.

This week’s themes:

Day 1: Gamification

Day 1 is about the gamification of habit formation: and how we can use the four stages of building a habit – cue, craving, response, and reward - to make it easier and more likely that you will achieve sustainable behaviour change.

Day 2: Anchoring

Day 2 describes the process of anchoring new habits to existing ones. This method makes introducing new behaviours simpler and more reliable by using an existing habit as an anchor and cue.

Day 3: Keystone habits

Day 3 is all about identifying keystone habits: Keystone habits have a domino effect on behaviour change, making new habits more straightforward while increasing your confidence and opening your mind to what’s possible.

Day 4: Identifying MVAs

Day 4 explores how to create an MVA (a minimum viable action): What is the shortest, simplest step that you can take, to support your new habit.

Day 5: Focusing on the process

Day 5 introduces the idea of focusing on the process, not the outcome: Discover how top-athletes use this mental skill to set themselves up for long-term growth and resilience.

The good news is that evidence suggests that, with the appropriate skills, and providing the right conditions are in place, we can all significantly increase the likelihood of making our goals a reality. I encourage you to review this week’s content and think about how you could apply the principles introduced in your everyday life.
